Happier Hunting Ground Named after the pet funeral service and cemetery in Evelyn Waugh's 'The Loved One', Happier Hunting Ground explores our individual subjective experiences anthropomorphising the connections between animals as we spend time with them. Whether it be looking out the kitchen window at the host of sparrows that visit the punga tree regularly or watching a cat enter a room looking for their housemate, these observations make us feel like we get a small insight into their 'to-do list.' Antoinette Ratcliffe's exhibition features her taxidermy made from ethically sourced animals and taxidermy based photography made over the last three years. Each animal given to her came with a story from the person who had tried to save...
REFURBISH A group exhibition by Aria McInnes, Louisa Beatty and Jelly O’Shea. REFURBISH speaks to the department store window displays of the past, whilst tempting you with the absurd of today. Third Floor - a w.w.a.h exhibition, marks Will Hadwen’s debut public presentation since completing his MFA in experimental video and photographic installation at Massey University, Wellington in 2017. Hosted by Hunters and Collectors, this multi faceted exhibition can be viewed from 5 - 30 April 2019. An exploratory body of work, it features works created from a variety of media, all stemming from a photographic basis. Urban nightscapes, abstracted spaces, hints of science fiction, strange states and potentialities. With many of the works made from recycled materials, a study of human trace emerges - documenting the life present in what we leave behind. Characters emerge in these environments as we find familiarity and strangeness in inanimate objects and settings. These works...
