Weathering is the process of wearing by long exposure to the atmosphere—the destruction and creation of landscapes by the long passage of geological time.
Weathering is an exploration of these natural processes that shape the landscapes around us, told through the medium of film photography - itself an example of exposure facilitating creation. These photographic works serve as an alternative, and an accompaniment, to Flo Isaacs’ scientific research into the same subject. Weathering gives great weight to the idea that art and science are two sides of the same coin, different approaches to make sense of the world we live in.
Flo Isaacs is a photographer based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara. Flo uses the medium of film photography to engage with themes of place, space, belonging, and environmental change. Their work is often shaped and informed by the research and field work that they undertake as a climate scientist. Flo’s first solo exhibition, I may be some time, was shown at DIRT Gallery in 2018.
