Nesting - Emily Mahoney

My creatures are often adorned with makeup and glitter, similar to how I
adorn myself. I care for them as if they are my own offspring, they have been
formed from elements of my own body and belongings. Previously these
creatures hid under my bed, inside my side table, and under my bathroom
sink. Now it seems as though they have followed me outside while I wasn't looking, and made themselves a new home at Hunters and Collectors...could there be more nesting in the shoes and bags throughout the store?

Emily Mahoney is a recent graduate from Massey University, completing her
Bachelor of Fine arts (with Honours) in 2025. Emilyʼs practice explores
abjection, body horror, and the human bodyʼs capabilities. Using latex, human
hair, makeup, and molding and casting bones, Emily's sculptures have
uncanny resemblances to the human body while simultaneously feeling alien
and peculiar. Her works are strange and uncomfortable, yet soft and inviting,
provoking the audience to question if they should care for these creatures or reject them.
